| Extraordinary Results August Newsletter 2005 -
It's All About Time >>
Thank you so much to all of you who completed the
survey that I sent out. It was interesting to read the answers and
discover what you are all struggling with as far as getting organized.
Overwhelmingly the areas that cause the most stress are not having enough
time followed by paper pile-up. I was not surprised as these are the two
areas that I work most with my one-on-one-consulting clients.
So,
the product that I’m developing will focus on these two areas along with
some other ‘hot’ spots to help you gain control back over your life! I am
so excited to be developing a tool that step-by-step will help you become
more organized, focused, and productive.
I will send out a special
newsletter when I’m ready to launch the product. My target date is early
fall.
I recently attended the NSA (National Speaker’s Association)
national convention in Atlanta. It was an incredible experience! Of
course, all the speakers were great and I learned a lot. But, I think the
best thing was to meet and visit with people who truly are making changes
in people’s lives. And everyone has an interesting story about how they
became a speaker.
If you are feeling like your office is out of
control and you wonder what you get done each day I invite you to consider
having me speak at your business or association. The GO System: Get
Organized for Life workshop has helped thousands to increase their
productivity, decrease stress, and eliminate distracting clutter. Within a
few hours of attending this workshop and applying the principles your new
work habits and organized workspace will advertise competence, confidence,
and professionalism.
I'm in the process now of booking fall and
winter speaking engagements. If your business or organization would like
to start off this fall being more focused, organized, and productive
please visit the Speaking
page on my website. It's time to make your life easier!
You may have heard the term "Pareto Principle" or
the 80/20 rule. This term means that a little bit of one thing generates a
great deal of something else. For every 10 tasks that you do in a morning;
2 tasks will give you 80% or your results and 8 tasks will only give you
20% of your results.
While many of us have heard this principle
few apply it in their lives. Start applying this principle and it will
change your life. You will learn to start focusing on what's important and
let the unimportant go.
Take a piece of paper and draw a line down
the middle vertically. On the left make a list of everything you do – I
mean everything! From changing the baby's diaper to marketing your
business. Then on the right side decide if this task is in your unique
ability (only you do it well) and put a UA by the task, put an E if you
are excellent at this task, C if you are Competent, or I = Incompetent.
Now, take a deep breath and dump the I’s and C’s. Either stop
doing them, delegate them to someone else, or hire someone to do them. I
know this may take a huge leap of faith but if you do this you will be
amazed at how your life changes. Your time can now be spent on what is
truly important and what you do very well.
Get in the habit of having a set time each week to
look over the week's activities and get your calendar up to date for the
week. Use my grocery list/menu
planner and plan the week's menus. As you fill in the menu for the
week check and see if you have the ingredients in your kitchen. When you
know what's for supper in the morning the whole day goes better!
Have an e-mail that you want to respond to later but
afraid you'll forget about it? If you are an Outlook user simply right
click on the e-mail and drag to the calendar icon. A box will pop up so
that you can pick the date and time to respond to the e-mail. Now the
e-mail is in your calendar! You can do this same method with e-mails and
the Tasks feature in Outlook. Again, right click the e-mail and drag it to
the Tasks icon. It will now be in your to-do list.
